Victims of Violence Are Not "Sacks of Bones"

Hello friends & advocates,

This is something that is VERY important to me, so please take a few minutes out of your day to read this.

An unidentified serial killer (referred to as The Long Island Serial Killer) murdered 10 people over the past several years, leaving their bodies along the Ocean Parkway. Among the victims that were identified were Amber Lynn Costello, Megan Waterman, Melissa Barthelemy, Maureen Brainard-Barnes.

These women were sex workers, and they were also much more than that. They do not deserve to be referred to as "sacks of bones."  I am disgusted that NOW-NYC would refer to victims of violence in such a way. PLEASE read the following open letter to NOW-NYC, written by members of Sex Workers Outreach Project NYC (SWOP-NYC) and Sex Workers Action New York (SWANK).

 Open Letter to NOW-NYC

Ok, step 1 is reading the letter. Step 2 is showing your support by signing it. Please email swank@riseup.net if you would like to add your name. I have done it, and you should too. Victims shouldn't be called "sacks of bones," and NOW-NYC should have more respect for victims of violence.

Also, please check out the following link to contribute to the reward funds for the capture of the Long Island Serial Killer.   Stunts 4 Justice- Donate

Instead of going out tonight and buying that expensive drink, donate that $10 to this important cause. I'm about to make my donation right now.

I'm really sick of living in a society where there's SO much violence against women. Please share this post if you are sick of it too.

  2. THESE GIRLS WERE SOMEONES DAUGHTERS. THEY DESERVE RESPECT AND
DIGNITY. PEOPLE SHOULD NOT BE JUDGED BY WHAT THEY DO FOR A LIVING BUT BY THEIR CHARACTER. SOMETIMES IN LIFE WE HAVE TO DO
WHAT WE HAVE TO DO IN ORDER TO SURVIVE.PLEASE DONATE WHAT YOU CAN AND TOGHETER LETS PUT AN END TO VIOLENCE!

  3. Yes- exactly!!!! Thank you so much for the comment. My mother donated today, I was so proud of her :) She doesn't seem to understand the work that I do, and disagrees with sex work. However, she agreed that no one should have to suffer the way those women did. The violence needs to end.
